Live Transcribe & Sound Notifications enhance communication and awareness for the deaf and hard of hearing community, using Android phones or tablets.
Access these features on most devices by:
- Going to Settings and selecting Accessibility.
- Tapping on Live Transcribe or Sound Notifications to initiate.
- Starting the apps via the Accessibility button, gesture, or Quick Settings
Sound Notifications:
- Alerts for risky or personal situations based on home sounds like alarms or baby noises.
- Customize alerts for appliance beeps.
- Receive notifications through flashing lights or vibrations on your device or wearable.
- Review a 12-hour timeline history of surrounding sounds.
Real-time transcription:
- Instant transcription in over 80 languages and dialects.
- Add frequently used custom words.
- Vibration alerts when your name is mentioned.
- Type your responses for continuous dialogue, with ongoing transcription.
- Visual sound indicators to help adjust your speaking volume.
- Support for various external microphones for improved audio reception.
Transcription reference:
- Option to save transcriptions for three days for reviewing and copying.
- Search within saved transcriptions.
- Copy and paste from transcriptions by long-pressing the text.
Requirements:
- Compatible with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and higher.
Developed in collaboration with Gallaudet University, Live Transcribe & Sound Notifications aim to make everyday life more accessible.
Permissions notice:
- Microphone access is necessary for both apps to transcribe speech and detect sounds, without storing the audio post-processing.
- As an accessibility service, the app can observe user actions.
